About Matt

I was born and live in South-East London. I studied Music at The University of York and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

I am a song-writer/composer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer, and have released 6 solo albums and an EP. The last album Around the Corner reached number 4 on the Amazon Jazz MP3 downloads chart. I am part of the band Super db and we have recently released our EP ‘Listen To This’ and debut album ‘Death By Disco’. One of our songs Kool Funk was #2 on the UK Soul Chart in June/July 2020. It had radio play across the UK, including on BBC, Delite and Mi-Soul, and internationally, including in the USA. We will be releasing our second album ‘Ecoute Ca’ in early 2021.

My new solo album ‘Bedroom Pop’ will be released sometime in 2021. I am also in the middle of writing 24 Preludes and Fugues, inspired by Bach. I’m currently at number 19 (August 2020).

I play the clarinet, sax, piano and sing in the punk-jazz band DOLLYman, and play clarinet with Italian guitarist Fabio Zambelli. We released our first album Minor Mood in 2011, our second album Spring in 2015, and our third Songs and Soundscapes in 2017.

I have composed lots of other pieces including 3 piano sonatas, 4 pieces for piano, 3 solo piano albums, various compositions for DOLLYman including ‘Poke’, ‘Jam’ and ‘Toast’, and various jazz pieces including ‘Minor Mood’ and ‘At Home’, as well as larger scale pieces including a string quartet.

I run the event band Ricochet and am part of Beach Boys SMiLE, considered one of the top Beach Boys tribute band in the UK.

I have taught the piano, clarinet, sax, and composition at The BRIT school, Sound and Music Summer School, Junior Trinity in Greenwich, The Michael Tippett School and Rose Bruford College.

When not making, listening, or thinking about Music, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, watching films, running and/or swimming, looking at Art, and the occasional glass of champagne.

  1. I was looking to propose to my girlfriend and hired a saxophone player to play outside a local outdoor bar in tower bridge London. I was promised the guy would be promptly available to play for me but was let down last minute where he became non responsive. Following my last minute panic I googled a last minute bid in order to salvage what was destined to be a disaster, I came across Matt Dibble. I emailed him immediately requesting him to play for me on short notice. I was expecting a no, but five mins later received an email saying he was teaching and therefore would call me within the hour. Further to my amazement and luck, he said he would be able to help me out and boy did he pull through in grand fashion. I owe this guy a lot, he accommodated me to the extent of perfection. He was courteous, willing, kind, funny and just an outstanding character of a man. He even offered to take pics after he played me and my girl the john legend all of me song and more importantly my girl said YES!

I would thoroughly recommend Matt , he won’t let you down. He will always keep you updated and communicates with you promptly and more importantly has amazing saxophone talent. This guy is an asset to anyone who wants a distinct highlight to there which will leave a memory of a lifetime. I’m actually grateful the original guy didn’t show as I would not have been blessed with matts excellence.

    5 STARS from me!!!!!!!!

Thanks for leaving the comment Haamid! Very glad you asked me to play – not often I get to play sax right by the Thames, for a proposal. Also glad she said Yes 😉
